About Injury Benefit Calc
Injury Benefit Calc was founded on a simple belief: every injured worker deserves access to clear, accurate information about their state’s workers’ compensation system — without having to pay an attorney just to find out what their weekly benefit might be.
Our Mission
Our mission is to make workers’ compensation information accessible, accurate, and free for every U.S. worker.
The U.S. workers’ compensation system is administered independently by 50 states, each with its own statutes, administrative rules, and case law. This means:
- There is no single “national” workers’ comp rate or formula
- The benefit you receive depends almost entirely on which state you were injured in
- The formulas, rates, and caps change annually — sometimes more often
- The system is difficult to navigate without specialized knowledge
Most workers, when they get injured, don’t know what to expect. Their employer’s HR department may not know the answer. The insurance carrier will calculate the benefit, but their calculation is not always transparent. And hiring a workers’ comp attorney can cost 15-25% of the settlement, which is significant for low-wage workers.
Injury Benefit Calc fills this gap. We provide free, accurate calculators and state-specific information so that injured workers can:
- Estimate their weekly benefit before they talk to the insurance carrier
- Understand their state’s formula, max, and min
- Know what to expect when they file a claim
- Recognize when an offer is below market and an attorney is needed
Our Approach
We take a research-first, data-driven approach to building our calculators and content:
- Source data from official state agencies. Every rate, formula, and cap on our site is sourced directly from the relevant state’s workers’ comp agency. We do not invent or estimate any rate.
- Update annually on a fixed cycle. State rates change annually (and sometimes more often). We update our data on a fixed cycle, with a “Last updated” date on every state page.
- Cross-check against industry data. We cross-check our calculations against NCCI rate filings, WCRI benchmarks, and BLS SOII data.
- Use the exact state formula, not a generic national formula. Each state’s calculator uses the exact formula specified by that state’s statute and administrative rules. This produces more accurate estimates than a generic calculator.
- Capture the methodology, not just the result. Our calculators return not just the result but a plain-language description of how the calculation was performed, so users can verify the steps.
What We Build
Injury Benefit Calc provides:
- Weekly benefit calculators for all 50 states, using each state’s exact formula
- Settlement estimators for all 50 states, based on NCCI and WCRI data
- State-specific pages for each state, covering the formula, rate schedule, claims process, and FAQ
- Methodology and sources pages to document our data sources and update process
- Articles and guides on common workers’ comp topics
All of this is free to use and does not require registration.
What We Do Not Do
We are committed to being transparent about what we are not:
- We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. For advice about your specific case, consult a licensed workers’ comp attorney in your state.
- We are not an insurance company. We do not issue policies, pay claims, or process claims.
- We are not a state agency. We are not affiliated with any state workers’ comp agency. The official state agencies are listed on our Sources page.
- We are not a substitute for medical advice. We do not evaluate your medical condition or determine whether you are eligible for benefits. For medical advice, consult a licensed physician.
- We do not capture every nuance of state law. Workers’ comp law is complex and changes frequently. We capture the major rules but may not capture every nuance. Always verify our estimates against the official state agency.
Editorial Standards
We hold our content to the following editorial standards:
- Accuracy: We source every rate, formula, and cap from the official state agency. We update our data on a fixed cycle and document the source and date on every state page.
- Transparency: We document our data sources, methodology, and limitations clearly. We do not hide or downplay limitations of our calculators.
- Independence: We do not accept compensation from insurance carriers, attorneys, or any party with a financial interest in workers’ comp outcomes. We do not endorse, recommend, or have financial relationships with any specific attorney, law firm, insurance carrier, or service provider.
- Privacy: We do not require registration. We do not collect personal information. We use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics (Plausible) that does not track individuals across sites.
- Accessibility: We aim to make our site accessible to all users, including those using screen readers or other assistive technologies.
